Today is a day to reflect and be thankful for all that we have, and acknowledge all that was lost on September 11th. It’s also an opportunity to take a moment to give back. Speaking as someone who has had the chance to volunteer for many years in different capacities, I promise, you will get back tenfold what you give.
Saturday, September 22nd, Operation International will hold it’s 21st Annual Summer Benefit at Laurel Lake Vineyards, on the North Fork. This event aims to benefit Team NY’s work at the Rakai Infant & Elementary School Orphanage in Uganda. Enjoy dinner, dancing and a silent auction honoring Jack Van De Wetering and Maryellen Spandonis (in memoriam).
Operation International was founded in 1996, with a mission ‘to offer medical aid to adults and children suffering from a lack of quality health care in impoverished countries.’ They also educate medical professionals in the countries while they are there in hopes of improving available healthcare. They have performed over 3,000 surgeries in 23 countries, restoring sight, helping burn victims, cancer patients, obstetrics patients and people with congenital anomalies.
